Football news LIVE: Postecoglou reveals reaction to Spurs sacking at Forest unveiling, Chelsea hit with 74 charges, Onana arrives in Turkey

talkSPORT brings you all the latest updates from the Premier League and beyond.
England put on a five-star display as they thrashed Serbia in a perfect end to the international break.
Elsewhere, Ange Postecoglou is the new Nottingham Forest manager and has completed his first press conference, discussing his Tottenham sacking and replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been hit with 74 charges by the FA in relation to agents, intermediaries and third-party investments.
Onana transfer update
Manchester United and Trabzonspor have reached an agreement over a deal to send Andre Onana on loan to the Turkish club.
talkSPORT understands a club-to-club agreement is in place for the move to happen.
Whether it goes ahead now lies with the goalkeeper.
Our sources say Onana is giving it serious consideration, having yet to make an appearance in the Premier League so far this season.
History on the line
Did you know: England have never conceded a goal against Andorra.
The Three Lions have faced the European minnows seven times and have won each of them with clean sheets.
It's a record Thomas Tuchel won't want to end on his watch, as this fixture bafflingly comes around yet again.
If they do score, it will be a huge moment for Andorra - not just because of their record vs England.
Andorra go into this game on a run of 14 games without scoring a goal.
Their last goal was scored by Albert Rosas against Israel in June 2023, which itself ended a run of 21 hours and 38 minutes without finding the net.
No pressure, Tommy T...
TEAM NEWS - England vs Andorra
Marcus Rashford has been picked for the starting XI for England vs Andorra.
The game kicks-off at 5pm, with live commentary on talkSPORT, and there are a few surprises in Thomas Tuchel's line-up.
As already mentioned, Eberechi Eze will start for the Three Lions at Villa Park.
Rashford, despite playing just 90 minutes of football since his loan switch to Barcelona this summer, starts on the wing with Noni Madueke on the opposite flank.
Fans wanting to see some experimentation up front will be disappointed to see Harry Kane starting up front.
But there will be a debut for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, who starts in midfield.
England starting XI: Pickford, James, Guehi, Burn, Lewis-Skelly, Anderson, Rice, Madueke, Eze, Rashford, Kane.
England subs: Dean Henderson, Trafford, Konsa, Gordon, Jordan Henderson, Spence, Rogers, Livramento, Gibbs-White, Loftus-Cheek, Watkins, Bowen.

San Nicolas, Rodrigo Tapia, Babot, Marc Vales, Cervos, Ricard Fernandez.Andorra subs: Pires, Ruiz, Rebes, Eric Vales, Lopez, Martinez, Rubio, Guillen, Teixeira, Gomes, de las Heras, Marc Garcia.
Referee: Mohammed Al Emara (Finland)
Onana finally on the move?
Andre Onana is now giving serious consideration to leaving Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.
Super Lig side Trabzonspor have a club-to-club agreement with the Red Devils for the goalkeeper as they look to sign him before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 12.
Onana is wanted in a loan deal and, while he was initially intent on staying put at Old Trafford this season, a move to Turkey could now be possible.
But it all depends on whether Onana wants to leave Old Trafford this month.
Onana has made just one appearance for Man United this season - in the humiliating Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town... where he was at fault for both of the League Two side's goals.
And he didn't perform well in the penalty shoot-out either, as the Red Devils crashed out on spot-kicks.
Manchester United are waiting on Onana's decision.
Graphic warning - Spurs star shares injury update
Dejan Kulusevski wants to let everyone know that he's OK and edging closer to a return to action after undergoing knee surgery.
But he did it by posting a photograph of literally the inside of said knee, turning the stomachs of his Instagram followers.
Kulusevski is one of six Tottenham players currently sidelined through injury, with James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Dominic Solanke, and Kota Takai also out of action.
The 25-year-old is expected to miss the entire Champions League league phase and could return to the field towards the end of the 2025, with the forward recently giving an update on his progress to the Swedish media.
But, along with the update, he also shared an image of his knee being sliced open by surgeons.
To spare the stomachs of our readers, we're not sharing the image here - but you can click through to our story to have a look... if you're that way inclined.
Eze does it
Eberechi Eze is set to start for England against Andorra, talkSPORT understands.
Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel is without numerous first-choice options in attack for the World Cup qualifier - live on talkSPORT at 5pm.
Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham are all sidelined with injuries.
England's fringe players will therefore get a chance to audition for their place in the team ahead of the World Cup next summer.
And sources have told talkSPORT Eze, who recently joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace in a deal worth £67.5m, has been handed an opportunity to impress.
Bruno says no to Ronaldo transfer... for now
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes turned down three approaches from PIF-owned Saudi clubs, talkSPORT understands.
The 30-year-old was tempted by the opportunity but after speaking to his family decided to do at least one more season with Man United.
Hilal never made an approach to Manchester United, but were ready to pay over £80m if given a green light by Fernandes. All parties deny Fernandes has a £60m release clause.
Fernandes decided it was better to stay at Manchester United in a World Cup year, especially given this could be his last appearance at the tournament.
However, he remains open to Saudi Arabia with dealmakers still intent on signing him in summer 2026.
Fernandes was also subject of an informal approach Al-Nassr in late July, with Cristiano Ronaldo now directly involved in the club's recruitment after extending his contract with the club.
Fernandes was again firm in his desire to stay in Europe for at least another 12 months and talkSPORT understand this was communicated directly to Ronaldo.
New contract
Bournemouth have announced Marcus Tavernier has put pen to paper on a contract extension with the club.
The 26-year-old winger has agreed to stay with the Cherries until 2029.
Tavernier joined the south coast club from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 and has made 93 appearances for the Cherries in all competitions.
“I’m very grateful for everything Bournemouth have given me over the past few years," he said.
“I’m just delighted that they’ve shown their appreciation of me to sign a new extension and to stay at this club where I’m having such a great time.
“It’s a place that I’ve come to love and it’s my home away from home, so it’s a really good feeling, not just for myself but my family as well.
“We’ve started the season off very well, even in the first game where we gave a good showing against last season’s champions.
“Ever since then, we’ve shown the capabilities that we showed last season, so hopefully, it can long continue.”
Greenwood 'not in our thoughts' - Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that Mason Greenwood will not be considered for a place in the England squad.
The Three Lions manager says he has not spoken to the Marseille forward, after he rejected a call-up to the Jamaica team.
Greenwood signalled his intention to switch allegiances from England to Jamaica last summer, but manager Steve McClaren admits he's been left 'disappointed' by the ex-Manchester United striker's lack of commitment to the Reggae Boyz.
There is speculation he could be holding out for a call-up to England, but Tuchel has insisted he is not in contention for a spot in his squad.
"I have not spoken to him until now. I have not spoken to him or his camp," the head coach said.
"My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica, so we didn't give it another thought. He was not in the mix at the moment and he is not in our thoughts for our team."
The 23-year-old was suspended by Man United in January 2022 over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
Greenwood faced charges including attempted rape and assault, but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February 2023 that the case had been discontinued.
The forward spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Getafe before making a permanent move to Marseille last year, and has managed 23 goals and 8 assists in 39 games since joining the French side.
Enrique to have surgery
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Luis Enrique has been involved in a cycling accident this evening.
The Spaniard was treated at the scene and will now undergo surgery to repair a fractured collarbone.
In a statement, they said: "Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone.
"The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course."
Who needs Isak?
Sweden are 1-0 up in their World Cup qualifying game against Slovenia at half time, and it is Anthony Elanga with the goal.
The Newcastle United winger is starting up front instead of Alexander Isak, and he has scored.
It was a great finish as well as he played a one-two in the box before dancing around a few defenders.
He then keeps his composure to slot home.
Who needs Isak, Newcastle fans?
Benched
After refusing to play a single minute of pre-season or any Premier League games for Newcastle United, new Liverpool striker Alexander Isak starts tonight's World Cup qualifier on the bench for Sweden.
The Swedes are facing Slovenia, and Benjamin Sesko starts for them.
But there is no Isak.
He is on the bench, with Jon Dahl Tomasson revealing he'd spoken to Liverpool to manage the striker's minutes.
Instead, Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres and new Toon winger Anthony Elanga start.
Cryptic
Kobbie Mainoo's latest, now deleted post on Instagram is very interesting.
The Manchester United star posted an image from the film 'Whiplash', which is about a drummer who can never impress his tutor.
Of course, in the end, he does manage it and makes it, so it's very unclear what he meant by this post, but it follows the closure of the transfer window.
The England international asked to leave Old Trafford on loan but was denied the chance.
Ruben Amorim publicly spoke about wanting Mainoo to stay and fight for his place, and that is what he is going to have to do.
Up and running
New Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa got his season up and running today for the DR Congo.
After completing a £55million move from Brentford on Deadline Day, the forward immediately jetted out to Africa to feature for his country.
In their World Cup qualification match, DR Congo won 4-1, with Wissa scoring and setting up another before being withdrawn 60 minutes in.
After going on strike to leave Brentford, these were his first minutes of the season, but Toon fans will be happy to see he got on the scoresheet and avoided injury.
Kane return
German football expert Raphael Honigstein has lifted the lid on a potential Premier League return for Harry Kane.
It follows reports the England captain could look to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Honigstein told Hawksbee & Jacobs: "It's no big secret that people in Germany don't expect Harry Kane to see out his career at Bayern necessarily.
"There was always a chance. I think Bayern are braced for the possibility that he will leave perhaps slightly earlier than his contract.
"His contract runs till 2027. So one way or the other, I think both he and the club need to take a view on this fairly soon.
"And the fact that they were pushing for somebody who can be both a backup and an understudy for Kane.
"They looked at (Benjamin) Sesko, they looked at (Nick) Woltemade, they ended up with (Nicolas) Jackson with an obligation, which is kind of a soft obligation to Bayern.
"(It) suggests that Bayern are aware of the possibility that Kane might go in a year or two and they need to plan for the future slightly.
"But at the same time, he is so good that anyone who comes in, and I would put Jackson firmly in that bracket, will have to play around Kane rather than really compete.
"There's absolutely no chance that Jackson will have the opportunity to displace Kane.
"He will have to play alongside him or ahead of him or give Kane the occasional breather when he misses a game or two.
"But he is very much there to be the backup and maybe his eventual successor, but we're still quite far off that."
Leoni tipped for greatness
Liverpool's new signing Giovanni Leoni has been dubbed the heir to Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
That is the opinion of former Southampton CEO Martin Semmens following his £26million switch from Parma.
Semmens also oversaw Van Dijk's time at St. Mary's before he joined the Reds in 2018.
Leoni already reminds him of the Dutch defender, who has won two Premier League titles with Liverpool.
He told Matterface, Crook & Deeney on Friday: "Yeah, absolutely for me [Leoni is the heir to the Van Dijk throne].
“We signed him the second year I was there in the summer, and I have a deep love for the likes of [Newcastle defender] Tino Livramento [for Southampton] and signing these young players. Romeo Lavia: This was the same kind of deal.
“I think it was clearly the best young centre back in Italy, if not Europe. And again, we sold him the vision to come to our club to play in Serie A.
“I think it was 17 when he started playing, and then when the right moment comes, you will go.
“Our understanding was the same with the keeper we bought, [Zion] Suzuki the Japanese keeper. Man United tried to buy him. That’s a rumour I can semi-confirm.
“The view was that they would probably stay there longer than one year, but Leoni was such a level, and again, I think it highlights Liverpool’s ability that they spotted that.
“There were other clubs in the Premier League that asked me about him – not as an Executive for Parma because I’d left by then, and I told them what I thought, and they didn’t follow through on it. Liverpool never called me.”
Tuchel on World Cup squad
Thomas Tuchel has admitted he is starting to get an idea of who will be heading to next summer's World Cup.
England are on course to qualify for the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
Having won their opening three matches, they will move a step closer with wins over Andorra and Serbia in the next four days.
Asked if he knows the group who will be on the plane to North America, Tuchel told talkSPORT: "Yes and no. Yes, I have my ideas and yes, I learned a lot from the last camps.
"I learned a lot about football because I have fantastic assistant coaches who challenge me every day in my beliefs and come up with new ideas.
"Then we translate it into international football about the amount that we can provide because we don't have a lot of time to train with the players.
"And no, because I don't want to lose my concentration and focus thinking about the World Cup.
"So if I even had now in my mind, if I have in my mind two, three, four or five players of which I'm sure that I want to play them, they still can get injured right in front of the World Cup.
"It's a possibility. This can always happen. So we always need to be open enough and pragmatic in our approach.
"It's camp by camp until we hopefully arrive in the US and once we arrive in the US we can only choose from the players who are fit and in shape. This will never change."
Juve slammed over Kolo Muani deal
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has reportedly taken aim at Juventus over their handling of transfer talks this summer.
His alleged comments follow a breakdown in negotiations for the Italian side to sign Randal Kolo Muani.
The French forward had spent the second half of last season on loan at the Serie A side.
However, he sealed a deadline day move to Tottenham instead of returning to Turin.
It has now emerged that PSG had been left frustrated by Juve's attempts to alter their deal during negotiations.
According to Sport Zone, Al-Khelaifi even went as far as sending a message to the Old Lady's directors.
He reportedly told them: "You’ve been making fun of us for weeks. It’s over. You won’t win the case. I’ll remember your methods, you can count on that."
Kolo Muani joined Spurs on Monday on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.
Woltemade spotlight
Newcastle fans have been sent a warning ahead of new signing Nick Woltemade's debut.
The German striker completed a club record £69million move to St. James' Park from Stuttgart on Saturday.
It follows a breakthrough season which saw him score 17 goals in all competitions before winning the golden boot at the Under-21 Euros.
However, German football expert Raphael Honigstein has provided a word of caution to the Toon Army.
Discussing Germany's loss to Slovakia last night, he told Hawksbee & Jacobs: "In the case of Woltemade, he's had half a season.
"Half a season at Bundesliga level and now he's supposed to lead the attack for Newcastle and for Germany, indeed.
"He was very anonymous and I think that is a really tall order.
"And if you combine that with a transfer fee, which of course is not their problem and not their fault that suddenly the transfer fee has exploded.
"Woltemade is nearly as expensive as Harry Kane was two years ago, which is absolutely insane if you think about it.
"It puts him in a spotlight, in a very uncomfortable spot, I think."
Levy 'left wonderful legacy'
Former Tottenham manager David Pleat has praised the work of Daniel Levy during his 24 years as chairman.
Spurs confirmed Levy's exit on Thursday, having been in the role since 2001.
Pleat twice returned to the club as caretaker manager during Levy's tenure and has hailed his impact in north London.
Asked about what it was like to work with Levy, he told Hawksbee & Jacobs: "He was a workaholic. He wanted the club to win.
"He kept the wonderful, sustainable club in terms of turnover. He was well respected by the other chairmen.
"The way he retained such a good business model in spite of the fact that they had to raise money to build a stadium, which was incredible, and all the difficulties of raising that stadium.
"If you recall, we had many, many problems with Haringey Council, many disputes with the local people before we got that stadium up and running.
"The stadium now, which houses 61,000 people, which only had 35,000 before.
"So the revenues and also the training ground, which is probably as good as any in the world.
"He's left a wonderful legacy and a wonderful starting period for any new era."
Burn on Isak
Dan Burn has admitted he is 'glad' Alexander Isak's transfer saga is over.
The striker completed a deadline day move to Liverpool from Newcastle for a British record £125million fee.
Burn and Isak made 98 appearances together for the Magpies and were the scorers in last season's Carabao Cup final win.
Asked about the Swedish international during Friday's England press conference, Burn told reporters: "I am glad it is done.
"We wanted the transfer window closed to have a bit of clarity on it. I have been in football long enough to understand that for a player, the careers are short and they have got things they want to achieve.
"Alex is a mate and it is a tough situation because you want him to be around and helping the team, but also understand for him what he needs to do personally. I have nothing but good wishes for Alex.
"No animosity. As a Newcastle fan, we are very protective of our club and city and we want players to be there who want to play for Newcastle and you don't want them to naively think that there is anyone else to go apart from Newcastle.
"So I understand why our fans are frustrated. I wish Alex all the best apart from when we play Liverpool, obviously."
England snubs 'hurt' Dier
Eric Dier has admitted it 'hurts' every time he is left out of an England squad.
The 31-year-old was not included in Thomas Tuchel's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers.
Dier has won 49 caps for the Three Lions, scoring three goals in those matches.
However, he has not featured since the round of 16 win over Senegal at the 2022 World Cup almost three years ago.
Discussing his exile from international football, he told The Telegraph: "It hurts. Every time it hurts. But hopefully I can make a change."
Dier has made three appearances for Monaco so far this season after completing a move from Bayern Munich in the summer.
He continued: “I don’t feel good about it at all. I don’t like it. Being stuck on 49 is a whole problem in itself!
"I’m very clear. I want to be back in the set-up and it hasn’t happened for the last couple of years. But I believe I can be in it, so I will try and get past the horrible 49."
Wolves exit
Sasa Kalajdzic is set to leave Wolves on loan, talkSPORT understands.
The Austrian striker will return to his homeland to join LASK for the season.
Clubs in Austria have until 5pm to complete their transfer business before the window closes.
Kalajdzic is set to complete a second loan switch away from Wolves since signing from Stuttgart in 2022.
He spent the second half of the 2023/24 season with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 28-year-old has not long returned from a third torn cruciate ligament of his career following 16 months out.
Kalajdzic's two substitute appearances so far this term have seen him play just 23 minutes for Vitor Pereira's side.
Stones out of squad
John Stones has been forced out of England's squad, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed.
The Manchester City defender will not be involved against Andorra tomorrow.
Instead, he has left the Three Lions camp after failing to recover from a muscular issue.
It also means Stones will miss Tuesday's trip to Serbia in the second of their two World Cup qualifiers this month.
Tuchel told reporters on Friday: "Unfortunately John Stones just left.
"He came with minor muscle issues to the camp and did not progress as we thought and hoped he would so he left the camp this morning because we will not take the risk with him, not against Andorra or Serbia.
"Everyone else is available, we had 21 players yesterday in training and 21 players today in training and we just need to make sure everyone is available for tomorrow."
The England boss also confirmed captain Harry Kane will start at Villa Park.
Stones follows Adam Wharton in pulling out of the squad after the Crystal Palace midfielder suffered a groin injury last weekend.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jarell Quansah were both added to the camp as late call-ups earlier in the week.
Stones has won 83 caps for England, scoring three goals, since making his senior international debut aged 20 in 2014.
However, he has not featured for the Three Lions since their win in Finland in October 2024.
Opportunity to 'transform' Spurs
Daniel Levy's Tottenham exit could provide the chance for an investor to 'transform' the club.
That is the opinion of football finance expert Kieran Maguire if the outgoing chairman chooses to sell his shares.
Levy remains a shareholder in the club's owners ENIC despite being removed from his role after 24 years.
Discussing what could happen next, Maguire told talkSPORT: "First of all, I think we've got to look at Daniel's own investment in Spurs, 27 or 28 percent.
"If he's not going to be involved in the day-to-day running of the club, why continue to to own those shares? So he might choose to divest himself."
As for potential investment, Maguire added: "I'm fully aware that Spurs has got so many saleable points.
"It's in London. You don't have to spend money on the infrastructure because the stadiums there, the training facilities are magnificent.
"It's an incredibly attractive proposition to both American investors and Middle Eastern investors because It's easy to get to from a transport point of view.
"It's got history and heritage. There is the opportunity to transform it. It's in a relatively strong position from a PSR perspective.
"So therefore you're not constantly looking over your shoulder in terms of 'what can I buy and what can't I buy?'
"It's certainly the biggest club in town as far as potential investors are concerned and then it comes down to the Lewis family and what their long-term objectives are."
