Football news LIVE: Postecoglou reveals reaction to Spurs sacking at Forest unveiling, Chelsea hit with 74 charges, Onana arrives in Turkey

talkSPORT brings you all the latest updates from the Premier League and beyond.
England put on a five-star display as they thrashed Serbia in a perfect end to the international break.
Elsewhere, Ange Postecoglou is the new Nottingham Forest manager and has completed his first press conference, discussing his Tottenham sacking and replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been hit with 74 charges by the FA in relation to agents, intermediaries and third-party investments.
So, who's already in the Hall of Fame?
You've seen the 15 names shortlisted for induction into the Premier League's Hall of Fame in November, but who will they be joining?
Well, it's certainly a who's who of icons to have graced the English top flight over the last few decades.
The class of 2021 comprised the inaugural Hall of Fame inductees, with David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Steven Gerrard, Thierry Henry, Roy Keane, Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer earning their richly deserved spot.
2022 saw Sergio Aguero, Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Wayne Rooney, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright enter the Hall of Fame.
The first managers to be inducted came in 2023 in the form of Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson, while Tony Adams, Petr Cech and Rio Ferdinand were the players who joined them.
Last year, only three players were honoured with the accolade: Andy Cole, Ashley Cole and John Terry.
Tinker time for Tuchel?
Every England player trained this morning, but according to one report, not every player emerged unscathed.
According to the BBC, Marc Guehi is 'managing' a groin complaint ahead of tomorrow night's World Cup qualifier against Serbia.
The report adds Guehi's injury isn't regarded as serious and the Crystal Palace star is not prepared to rule himself out of the match just yet.
Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel is due to speak to the media at 7:45pm in Serbia (6:45pm UK time), so we should expect a concrete answer on Guehi's status then.
But should Guehi miss out, it would almost certainly mean a centre-back pairing between Dan Burn and Ezri Konsa.
Burn started the 2-0 win over Andorra last Saturday alongside Guehi, who came off in the second half for Konsa.
Konsa was the only out-and-out centre-back on the bench against Andorra.
Tel's tough luck
Tottenham winger Mathys Tel has opened up on the heartbreak of not being included in his team's squad for their upcoming Champions League campaign.
That's despite Tel helping the north London club win the Europa League and joining on a permanent basis from Bayern Munich this summer.
Speaking at a press conference while with the France Under-21 squad, Tel said: "It's clear that when you're not on a list, it definitely hurts.
"But I'm someone who stays pretty positive, no matter the situation, because I think I've worked a lot n the mental aspect.
"So today it's definitely a disappointment, I would have liked to be there.
"But the coach's choice is the coach's choice, we can only respect it and we're going to work to come back in the best possible way."
On your Marc
The Marc Guehi to Liverpool saga has reportedly taken another twist.
According to The Times, the Reds don't intend to reignite their interest in the Crystal Palace skipper when the January window rolls around.
Instead, Liverpool are content to wait around until next summer.
Conveniently, next summer is when Guehi's contract with the Eagles expires, meaning Liverpool will be able to sign him on a free deal.
So far, Guehi has refused to sign an extension on his deal which means he already has an eye on an exit from Selhurst Park in the not-too-distant future.
News of Liverpool's stance comes after they failed in a £35m bid for Guehi on deadline day as Crystal Palace failed to land a replacement in time.
Easy does it for Evans
Former Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has opened up on his remarkable weight loss journey.
Following his axing by the Millers last March, Evans decided he needed to whip himself into shape.
But by doing so, it meant he had to avoid a return to management to ensure he could give his full effort to the cause.
Even though he admitted his family didn't think he could stick with the program, Evans proved them wrong and then some.
All up, Evans has lost a staggering total of 41.2kgs.
"It has been incredibly hard work, going swimming two and a half kilometres every morning and biking and walking dogs and doing so many steps," Evans said in an interview with Sky Sports.
"I am feeling the benefit now mentally and physically, fantastic."
Standing in the Hall of Fame
A good lyric that, from The Script.
But, on a slightly more serious note, the Premier League has announced the 15-man shortlist to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
The Hall of Fame, which already boasts 24 names, will welcome two new names to the honour roll.
So, here's the 15 names on the shortlist: Sol Campbell, Michael Carrick, Jermain Defoe, Patrice Evra, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, Gary Neville, Michael Owen, Teddy Sheringham, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Edwin van der Sar and Nemanja Vidic.
The two from that esteemed list of Premier League greats selected to join the Hall of Fame will subsequently be inducted at a glitzy ceremony on November 4.
Bil-bad
Athletic Club defender Yeray Alvarez is set for a 10-month stint on the sidelines.
That's because he failed a doping test after the Bilbao outfit's 3-0 loss to Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final last season.
It means Alvarez, who played the entire match, cannot play football again until April 2026 but can return to training next February.
"On 1 May 2025, Athletic Club player Yeray Alvarez underwent an in-competition doping control carried out by UEFA following a UEFA Europa League match," a UEFA statement read.
"The analysis of the player’s sample by a WADA-accredited laboratory revealed the presence of Canrenone, which is a substance prohibited in- and out- of competition under the category S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents of the 2025 WADA Prohibited List.
"On 2 June 2025, the player accepted a voluntary provisional suspension having effect from that date.
"Following the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the player on 10 June 2025, two UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors conducted an investigation and the case was submitted to the UEFA disciplinary bodies for decision.
"At its meeting on 19 August 2025, the relevant UEFA disciplinary body decided to suspend the player for ten (10) months, starting from the date of the provisional suspension (i.e. 2 June 2025) and ending on 2 April 2026, for committing a non-intentional anti-doping rule violation.
"In accordance with Article 10.14.2 of the UEFA Anti-Doping Regulations, the player may return to train with a team or use the facilities of a club in the last two months of his period of ineligibility, i.e. as of 2 February 2026."
Tuchel time
England manager Thomas Tuchel will speak to the media tonight at 7:45pm in Serbia (6:45pm UK time) ahead of the Three Lions' World Cup qualifier tomorrow night against Serbia.
There's sure to be plenty of questions thrown at the German, especially given the nature of his side's 2-0 win over Andorra.
Harry Kane will also speak to the media following Tuchel's presser.
talkSPORT will have all the major updates from both press conferences, so make sure you either tune in on the radio or follow along in our live blog to stay up to date.
Tomorrow will also mark just the second match between England and Serbia since 2003, with their last encounter being a 1-0 win for the Three Lions at Euro 2024.
England would love a repeat result to make it five wins from five in their World Cup qualifiers as they look to take yet another giant stride towards next year's tournament in the Americas.
The race to 2026
There's more international action to come tonight and it's perhaps a safe bet that a lot of eyeballs will be fixated on Sweden's trip to Kosovo.
That's because it could mark Alexander Isak's first appearance this season.
The striker, who was called up to the Swedish squad for this international window, had not played a minute for Newcastle before he sealed his money-spinning switch to Liverpool.
He remained an unused substitute in Sweden's 2-2 draw with Slovenia last Friday, but he might finally get some much-needed minutes into his legs tonight.
Also in World Cup qualifying action amongst the European teams tonight are Switzerland v Slovenia, Croatia v Montenegro, Gibraltar v Faroe Islands, Greece v Denmark, Israel v Italy and Belarus v Scotland.
Bring it on!
Pay day for Andre
Andre Onana has had his wish of a pay rise granted - but not by Manchester United.
The polarising goalkeeper approached the Red Devils with the request in the summer, but it was not granted.
However, Onana is now set to receive a tidy pay day thanks to Turkish club Trabzonspor.
As part of his imminent loan switch to the Turkish club, Onana will earn more than he did at Old Trafford as talkSPORT due to a hefty signing-on fee and potential bonuses.
All's well that ends well, right?
Not for sale
Well, they sure kept that one quiet!
Tottenham have confirmed they had 'unequivocally rejected' formal interest from two separate parties.
And if other groups were keen to buy the north London club, they might want to re-think their stance.
"The board of the club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the club," the statement added.
Time will tell as to whether that stance from ENIC and the board changes over the coming weeks and months.
Speaking Frankly
Thomas Frank gave talkSPORT's Natalie Sawyer an excellent parting gift for her final show on the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
Sawyer is leaving her role as presenter of the show after what has been an excellent stint in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.
talkSPORT fans have listened to her voice alongside Tony Cascarino for five years to kick-start their weekend dose of sport.
Sawyer will remain with the station and work on different shows, but it's time for her to call time on the Weekend Sports Breakfast gig and turn off those early alarms!
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank sends talkSPORT host Natalie Sawyer wholesome video messageMagpied
Bayern Munich's honorary president, Uli Hoeness, has delivered a scathing swipe at Newcastle over the signing of Nick Woltemade.
The Bundesliga champions were heavily interested in the German striker prior to his club-record £69million move to the Magpies.
The signing of Woltemade represented a huge coup for Newcastle, given Bayern saw three bids rejected for the 6ft 6ins forward.
During negotiations, Hoeness was left angered by Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus seemingly driving up Woltemade's price tag by publicly claiming €80-100m (£69-86m) was a fair valuation when the Bavarians were offering a lot less.
The lower end of that estimation ultimately proved to be exactly what Stuttgart managed to extract from Newcastle.
During an interview with German TV channel SPORT1, Hoeness was asked about Matthaus' correct prediction and replied: "He was just lucky.
"He [Woltemade] isn't worth the €90million", Bayern's honorary president continued in a dig at Newcastle and their PIF owners.
"That only happened because of the money flowing from Saudi Arabia."
Go-nana
Andre Onana has agreed to leave Manchester United for Trabzonspor on loan, talkSPORT understands.
The Cameroonian international was keen to stay and fight for his place, but a move to Turkey is set to happen
talkSPORT reported that United were waiting on Onana's decision after verbally agreeing a deal with Trabzonspor - with the Turkish transfer window open until September 12.
Now the goalkeeper has said yes to the proposal from the Turkish Super Lig club.
Jack of all trades
Nicolas Jackson's days as a Bayern Munich player already appear numbered, and he hasn't even made his debut yet.
The Senegal striker joined the German giants on loan from Chelsea on deadline day this summer.
The deal included an obligation to sign the former Villarreal star for £56.2million should certain clauses be met.
But the 24-year-old's long-term future has already been thrown into doubt by Bayern Munich.
Their honorary president was a guest on SPORT1 and revealed all about the deal.
Hoeness: "It's not a €16.5m loan fee, because the player and his agent are contributing €3m, so that leaves €13.5m.
"There will definitely not be a permanent contract. That only happens if he plays 40 games from the start. He will never do that!"
Kon artist
Liverpool contract rebel Ibrahima Konate has joked that Kylian Mbappe calls him every two hours over a move to Real Madrid.
The defender has entered the final year of his deal at Anfield and can sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January.
During a yes/no game on French TV, Téléfoot, presenter Séverine Parlakou asked: "The Spanish press is sending you to Real Madrid next season. Kylian Mbappé is putting a bit of pressure on you to come?"
"He calls me every two hours!", the Liverpool star laughed in response, having also denied that he has already learnt Spanish.
HaCunha matata
Manchester United may have been handed a swift injury boost by Matheus Cunha.
The £62million summer signing has been a bright addition to Ruben Amorim's squad - but was forced off early in their 3-2 win over Burnley.
However, Cunha looks to have teased a quick comeback to fans on social media, with a huge Manchester derby as their next match.
The former Wolves star, hours after expressing his love for a vintage Manchester United shirt, posted an image of himself on a static bike.
It was then accompanied by the caption 'The time is flying', alongside emojis of a clock and a stick of dynamite.
To the Max
Max Dowman wrote his name into the record books again as he starred for England Under-19s against Spain.
The Arsenal wonderkid was named in the line-up for the Young Lions' 3-3 draw in Murcia, and became the youngest starter in the age group's history in the process.
Aged just 15, Dowman had made his debut for Will Antwi's team after coming off the bench against Ukraine Under-19s on Wednesday.
In doing so, he became the youngest-ever player for England Under-19s, before chalking up another record against Spain on Saturday.
Mo bang for your buck
Tony Cascarino has issued a staunch defence of Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah following a perceived slow start to the season.
The Egyptian has scored on the Premier League opening day and assisted Rio Ngumoha's winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle.
However, a quiet showing in the 1-0 triumph over Arsenal before the break increased rumblings that Salah has been struggling thus far.
"Now there's an undercurrent, a little rumblings about how well or how poorly Mo has started the season," Cascarino told talkSPORT. "There's a rumblings going on.
"I wanted to stick up for him. Look, many players in their career have rough times, and I know I've had it myself. And it's a lot longer than three games.
"If you'd gone in 10 games and we're looking at Mo Salah and gone, you know what, 'he's struggled in the early part of the season.' I think that's a fair comment.
"But Liverpool being top of the table, and he's like you said, goal and an assist. Has he played his best football?
"No, he hasn't. He hasn't got near what we know he's capable of.
"His touch against Arsenal was not there on the day.
"But the manager has played him every minute of every game so far because he knows how important Mo, even though not an inform Mo, makes a difference."
Natalie Sawyer added: "Something I think is really important to consider is what has happened at Liverpool Football Club over this summer. And obviously, I'm talking about Diogo Jota and how that has affected everyone.
"We saw after that Bournemouth game, the emotion from Mo Salah standing on the pitch in front of the Kop, crying when he was hearing the chants from all the fans there.
"Even now Brentford goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, I saw him have an interview, was it a couple of weekends ago, where he talked about Diogo Jota as well and how that had affected him.
"And I think that's something that isn't really necessarily being considered by a lot of these people. We don't know how these players are being affected, especially at Liverpool, in the sense that they walk into that training ground, they walk into that dressing room at Anfield, whenever there's a game, seeing where Jota should be, knowing he's not there.
"I don't know how that must feel for all of them. Salah has already spoken a little bit about his own personal friendship with him.
"It wouldn't surprise me if all these players are experiencing grief, and yet they're still expected to do a job to the highest level."
Soft Tuch
England may have eased to a 2-0 win over Andorra - but Thomas Tuchel wanted to see more from three of his star attackers.
Speaking to ITV about Madueke, who was one of England's better players, Tuchel was asked to comment on his performance.
To which he said: "Yes, that's what he needs to give.
"He sometimes has a lack of concentration or falls asleep in counter-pressing, but if he pushes himself he can be a very important player.
"Bukayo [Saka] at the moment is injured for Arsenal and us so that is what he needs to do."
And Tuchel also name-dropped Madueke when he declared how he wants to see his attacking players be more direct in the final third.
He remarked: "I think we missed the little moments to accelerate the game.
"Maybe Ebz [Eberechi Eze] didn't have his best day in the No.10 position.
"He trained so well in the decision-making, but struggled a little bit.
"The last pass from Noni, the last decision from Noni wasn't clinical enough and Marcus Rashford had some good moments, but couldn't finish them with a clinical assist.
"It's stuff that can happen against a narrow 5-4-1 [formation]. We should have scored the second one earlier, because the second goal gave us a lot of freedom and players moved with a bit more confidence."
Mic drop
Michael Owen made a mistake in pushing an online argument involving him and Wayne Rooney - he's better than that.
That's the view of ex-Chelsea left-back Scott Minto, who has had his say on the former Liverpool striker weighing in on who was better between him and Rooney at the age of 17.
Speaking on the Saturday Session, he said: "Look, where do I go with this? Because I've got the utmost respect for Michael Owen.
"I've said on several occasions - even recently when we've talked about Arsenal needing a goal scorer - I said, an example I use is played against Michael Owen.
"We played really well at Anfield (2002/03 season), he had probably five touches of the ball, two of them went in the back of the net.
"We're on the coach on the way home thinking what the heck happened there, that's what a world-class striker can do.
"But why first of all, why are you getting involved Michael? Honestly, you don't need to, you really don't need to, you're better than that."
Player ratings
'Can you remember anything special? Me neither.'
That was the brutal verdict of talkSPORT's Adrian Durham when describing the performance of Arsenal star Eberechi Eze in England's drab 2-0 win against Andorra.
Giving his instant match reaction, Durham said: "I thought that was tough.
"And the fact there were thousands of fans that left way before the end of the game here at Villa Park...
"And when you bear in mind, it's only just coming up to 7pm, does that not reflect on what they thought of the performance here ?
"Yes, they won, but nobody was really entertained that much were they?"
He added: "What really matters is if we win the World Cup, nobody's going to remember a dull 2-0 against Andorra on a Saturday afternoon back in September.
"What really matters is how they played then, but Thomas Tuchel had said to us, 'We want to show the fans, it's time to start showing the fans.'
"For me that really hasn't happened tonight."
Tuchel will be hoping for a more convincing display from his players when England face Serbia on Tuesday night at Rajko Mitic Stadium.
Here's how Tuchel rated and slated England's stars...
England 2-0 Andorra - Full time
And that's it!
England have eased to three points to maintain their 100 per cent winning start in World Cup qualifying after four games.
The Three Lions never had to get out of second gear.
For Thomas Tuchel though, he would have been hoping for more goals having dominated possession.
England now travel to Serbia for their next match on Tuesday night.
England 2-0 Andorra - GOAL!
England have their second - and it's Declan Rice that has found the back of the net.
The Arsenal midfielder got on the end of Reece James' stunning cross to head home into the corner in the 67th minute.
And it has proven to be his last contribution with Rice coming off for Morgan Rogers.
England have dominated the match and they have finally got the second goal they have been pushing for.
Game over.
England 1-0 Andorra - GOAL!
England have the breakthrough at Villa Park.
And it's an own goal scored by defender Christian Garcia Gonzalez.
Garcia inadvertently headed into his own net after trying to clear Noni Madueke's whipped in cross from the right wing.
But unfortunately for the 26-year-old, his attempt nestled into his own far corner in the 25th minute.
It's all-one way traffic as it stands, and you wouldn't be surprised if England double their lead before the break.
