Two teams with strong intentions of being in the latter stage of the play-offs come to blows tonight in the opening game of the second week of the NFL season, both having recorded opening day wins last weeknd.

Green Bay will head into tonight's game as odds on favourites for victory, with the notable addition of Micah Parsons, arguably the best defensive player in the league, to their roster in the off season from the Dallas Cowboys making them genuine Super Bowl contenders.

Last weekend saw Matt LeFleur's side record a comfortable 27-13 win over last season's top NFC seed the Detroit Lions in a divisional match up which shows the changing of the guard in the NFC North.

Jordan Love is now into his third season as the Packers' starting quarterback following the departure of Aaron Rodgers, and looks to have grown into the role well with the side appearing now to be well set for a deep dive into the play-offs.

The Washington Commanders last season made it, to the surprise of many, all the way to the NFC Championship game last season after heading into the playoffs as the sixth seed, winning at NFC South champions Tampa Bay and top seeds Detroit before falling to eventual Super Bowl champions Philadelphia.

Dan Quinn's side will be looking to go one step further this time around, attempting to secure a first NFC East title in five years on the way.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, last season's Offensive Rookie of the Year, continued where he left of last time around with a strong performance in last week's 21-6 victory at home against the New York Giants, and the battle between him and Love and Parsons will be a key factor in which side will come out on top on Thursday night.

The last four meetings between the two sides have all been won by the team playing at home, though it will be the first game between the two since 2022, when Commanders edged out a 23-21 win at Northwest Stadium.
