Thursday horse racing tips

  • DONCASTER
    1.50: Jel Pepper 10/3 (1pt)
    2.25: Venetian Lace 15/2 each-way (1pt)
    3.00: Santorini Star 9/2 (1pt)
  • UTTOXETER
    6.05: Idy Wood 5/1 each-way (1pt)

Jel Pepper

Wootton Bassett won this race in 2010 and his colt Brussels from Aidan O'Brien's yard is just about favourite to do the same.

Christophe Soumillon replaces the injured Ryan Moore and clearly has a big chance on form.

But Jel Pepper, the gelding trained by Oliver Cole also has a huge weight advantage of 10lb despite having an overall rating of 100.

His placed effort behind Zavateri and Do Or Do Not in the Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes at Newmarket in Group 2 company shows he's got huge potential if progressing.

Solid 4th of 21 runners last time out at Naas but this does look a bit tougher as he was favourite for that one and was almost disappointing at 6/4.

But this weight advantage puts him right up there especially with the potential of another big run which previous form shows is very likely.

He's shown already that he can cope with those big fields which is vital experience for a two-year-old.

Venetian Lace

Moon Target had a lot to do to make up ground when hitting the straight here last time out when 2nd to Precise.

He was ridden right out and only just missed out so a different set of tactics here might be ideal to see her through.

Her potential from that and now shows as she's the clear favourite, even ahead of Aylin who was also in that race and placed third.

Aylin could get closer but she got going too late and didn't quite make an impact suggesting she may need more here.

However, Venetian Lace for Charlie Johnston looks a great each-way bet that offers a lot more value.

She was a very close third to the Godolphin Dance To The Music last time out in Group 3 company, and could try to set the pace to take it away from Moon Target.

Santorini Star

Getting a lot of attention in the betting this morning and could go in further as this filly loves to win.

She won last time out when upped to 2m for the first time and Tom Marquand on board another William Haggas-trained horse often appeals at this stage.

Idy Wood

Icare Allen won here back in July but that horse overturned a horrendous run of form and of course facing a 4lb rise there's more cause for Liverpool Knight to go on.

However, Idy Wood is more interesting switching back to hurdles at a dangerous mark - having run in Grade 2 company in February 2024.

Won over fences last time out so the winning form over this distance is there and has each-way appeal too.
