The African American Women’s Fund Project (AAWFP) is about women helping women and being responsible for African American women who represent the future.

Safe Alternatives to Youth - SAY supports educational, cultural, recreational and other activities designed by community members to enhance the life experiences of disadvantaged youth in Milwaukee County.

The STEM in Sports Academy is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Sports program that is tuition-free and targets young girls in middle and high school with a special emphasis on involving urban and minority students. The academy will be held on the campus of UW Milwaukee. The STEM in Sports Academy combines, “hands-on” laboratory experience with round table lectures from women in the STEM Sports fields to include Sport activities. This one-day event is for girls ages 13 - 16 to have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful problem-solvers in careers and post-secondary learning involving sports, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Attention will be on the following:

•Role Models: A special emphasis is placed on including female and minority role models who serve as teachers and speakers.
•Education: The academy covers a broad range of career paths and subject areas including Sports medicine, athletic trainer,   Kinesiology, and video sports technician.
•Empowerment: The young women combine scientific principles with technical know-how with the understanding of career development in the STEM Sports fields.

Objective: Students attending the academy will learn how studying the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) can be integrated with physical activity and lead to careers related to sports.  Students will learn about various careers, what they do, what type of education is needed, and what they can do to get on a successful career path.
