A woman in sports in action

By guest blogger, Michelle Sieg

I recently had the opportunity to meet with Sue Black, the owner and CEO of Milwaukee Wave at her office in the Wisconsin Center District downtown. On this particular day, Sue was wearing a Wave t-shirt, a pair of shorts and tennis shoes – this was during one of the hottest weeks of the summer – and she was absolutely running around that office with several tasks going at once. But she was cool. And that’s a sign of grace under pressure.

It got me thinking about how Sue had gotten there. How did she become the first female owner of a pro sports team in the state?

Like many Milwaukeeans – or even Wisconsinites – I knew a great deal of the Sue Black story, but I didn’t know all of it. And so after my meeting with her, I came back to my office and began jotting down questions for her – and you can think of questions for her, too. You may even have a chance to ask her yourself at a special I.O.U. Sports fundraiser, “One on One with Sue Black,” Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 5pm at Alverno College.
